Favourite works from the recent exhibition at the fab Whitworth Gallery, Manchester

'....though the wooden bridge, artificial flowering trees and stalagmite-like wax sculptures that together make up Calligraphy Peach Blossom Garden by the Yangjiang Group appear tranquil, the balled sheets of calligraphy that fidget strangely as something moves unseen beneath them are actually a way of subverting the tradition and discipline associated with the art form. ....includes Ai Weiwei’s installation, Still Life (1995-2000), a mass-display of thousands of Stone Age axe heads and an iconoclastic gesture designed to offset the value and importance of these ancient objects.

Visited the new HOME former Cornerhouse - love the description' HOME is for curiosity seekers, for lovers of the dramatic, the digital and the deeply engaging; for radicals and reciprocators' - Formed by the merger of two of Manchester’s best-loved arts organisations, Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company,

HOME is surrounded by some interesting architectural design. Great photographic opportunity - colour, line, reflection, contrast, sculptural  man-made structures against the changing sky. 

MMU Degree show 2015

....as ever a highlight of the exhibition calendar seeing the fantastic work by the graduating students from MMU. All photographs here are by the students - no names but credit to all the amazing students who have completed their degree there. Work from the BA (Hons) degrees in Fine Art, Textiles, 3D Crafts, Illustration & Fashion and work from the Foundation Diploma in Art students - extremely high quality work from  a fantastic university.
