Liverpool Tate & Walker Art Gallery Visit

New student time at Leek School of Art...so headed off to Liverpool to inspire the new Art & Design art bunch with lots of fanastic art.

First stop Tate Liverpool to see....
Mondrian and his Studios, exhibition banner for Tate Liverpool

'Mondrian and his Studios marks the 70th anniversary of the artist’s death and considers not only Mondrian’s significance, but also the circumstances (in both life and painting) that led him to make the switch from successful figurative artist in his homeland to international radical innovator. Taking visitors through Paris, London and eventually New York, the exhibition tracks Mondrian’s personal and aesthetic journey, and finds threads between the two: a major highlight is the immersive life-size reconstruction of his Paris studio, which allows visitors to inhabit not only Mondrian’s creative world but also a three-dimensional version of his colourful experiments in painting'. http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-liverpool/exhibition/mondrian-and-his-studios

Also saw NASREEN MOHAMEDI exhibition - a fantastic 'new' discovery for me - loved her work.

High tide for a blue moon

'..... the intriguing work of Indian artist Nasreen Mohamedi (1937–1990). Born in Karachi and raised in Mumbai, Mohamedi is now considered to be one of the most significant artists within the modernist tradition, with her work receiving great critical acclaim internationally in recent years. ...his exhibition highlights significant phases in the artist’s practice; from semi-abstract lyrical paintings of the 1960s, to her intricate engagement and subversion of the modernist grid throughout the 1970s, and detailed drawings of suspended diagonal lines, triangles and spheres in the 1980s. The latter recall the utopian designs of constructivist artists such as Kazimir Malevich, who she greatly admired. A further highlight will be Mohamedi’s personal photographic practice through which she maintained a visual record of her experiences, capturing images of desert landscapes, seascapes, modern structures, and the Islamic architecture of Fatehpur Sikri.' http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-liverpool/exhibition/nasreen-mohamedi-0

Next stop...
John Moores Painting Prize

'Once again the Walker Art Gallery brings a fascinating array of approaches to one of art’s most traditional mediums when the John Moores Painting Prize opens as part of the Liverpool Biennial .
The mix of paintings is eclectic, with landscapes, portraits, abstract and sculptural works united only by their manipulation of paint. UK-based artists who work with paint were able to submit work to be considered for the prize. 50 artists have been selected from more than 2,500 entrants.
We are also honoured to display the dynamic prizewinners from the 2014 John Moores Painting Prize China, which was held for the third time in Shanghai earlier this year. ' http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/walker/johnmoores/
