The Lowry, Salford Quays
Recently visited the Lowry at Salford Quays - going to see 2 exhibitions:
'Alison Goldfrapp Performer as Cand 'Defining Me: Musical Adventures in Manchester'
'Defining Me: Musical Adventures in Manchester' was a really interesting exhibition for someone (Me!) who loves music, loves Manchester and goes on lots of musical adventures in Manchester and who's favourite musician: Johnny Marr (who else!) is Mancunian. Plus am a big Smiths fan.I have a collection of tickets from gigs that i am rather proud of so was interesting to see other peoples music & gig memorabilia.
Through key artefacts such as photography, posters, ticket stubs and video footage, the exhibition will explore the emotional, life-changing and inspirational experiences we all have with music; charting the cultural significance of Manchester within music history told by the people that know.
Fav poster - obviously!
Great building architecturally - amazing colours in corridors
Alison Goldfrapp
'Performer as curator'
Sat 19 October - Sun 2 March
Went to see a strange and curious exhibition curated by Alison Goldfrapp - singer/performer. Her exhibition explored some of the singer’s personal inspirations through the painters, film makers, illustrators and photographers who have shaped her own inimitable artistic vision.
A very diverse collection portraying the artist’s fascination in the darker side of fairy tales and folklore through traditional and contemporary artworks by internationally renowned artists. Goldfrapp, who graduated from art school while writing and performing music, also art directs all things visual for the band.
The exhibition explores the themes of transformation, metamorphosis and identity that often recur within traditional fairy tales and that have been represented within works of art for centuries.

The desolate images taken by provocative former Vogue photographer Deborah Turbeville, offering new perspectives on fashion and femininity, will appear alongside the playfully unsettling photography of British photographer Anna Fox.
